Brentham U.15 vs. Wembley U.15 22/05/08
Due to certain players being unavailable because of school matches, Brentham travelled to the “hostile” Wembley with a very young team. Bretto lost the toss and Brentham were directed to bowl first on a pitch of Astroturf and kwik-cricket stumps. The opening spell from Bretto and Brando was fruitless but restricted Wembley to 35 off 6 which was good considering the conditions. The Manse got the first wicket at 51 off 9 with a great catch by Daniel Khan. Then a good spell of bowling by Jamie and Daniel occurred and left Wembley on 111 for 1 off 16. Then, Faisal was duly murdered for 1-37 off 3, chin up though. Patrick bowled well even though his figures did not reflect this. Wembley finished on 167 for 5 after 20 overs with Bretto and Joe getting wickets in the final overs. A fantastic opening partnership of 66 by Joe Brandreth and Faisal left Brentham in a good position. Faisal was stumped for 30 and up stepped Chris Hitchcock to see Brentham home with a 50 – or maybe not. A golden duck later and Brentham were 70 for 2 off 12. Although the chances of a win for the trees was lessening Joe Brandreth batted superbly to reach 55 not out. He scored 11 fours in 69 balls and made the Brentham score look very respectable. Patrick Mythen was run out for 13 and George Wright finished on 0 not out off 0 balls – good contribution though. In the end, Brentham reached 108 for 3 in their twenty overs, which is a very good score for such a young team against a team containing many Middlesex players.
Brentham U.15 vs Perivale U.15 05/05/08
An early start was in order for the u.15s who had their first game of the season away to Perivale in the cup. The stand-in captain won the toss and elected to bat on the artificial surface with kwik-cricket stumps. Faisal and Sahil – Ladoo – opened the batting (no quick singles then). After a good opening partnership of 35 Sahil was bowled for 12. Joe was “controversially” given out after padding it to wicket keeper for a catch behind. Up stepped Bretto for his debut colts game but the skip's wicket looked inevitable and he fell after a cowboy cameo of 6. However, Faisal was still at the crease and was batting superbly and sensibly to keep the score ticking over. He got a lusty 50 off 54 balls including four sixes and three fours. Due to the rules he had to retire and Brentham ended on 114 for 6 off their twenty overs. After an inspirational team-talk by Luke “hero” Budden Brentham went to the field and opened up with new recruit, Alex and Bretto. The sound of the kwik cricket stump being dislodged by Bretto’s first delivery was immediately drowned out by ladoo's cries of got eeeeeeeeeeeeem. Good fielding by Matt Lewis led to the wicket of their other opener. Alex Kutner, on his debut, got two key wickets for 14 runs including a good catch by Joe. Bretto finished on 1-17 and Joe 1-13. A very good and important deep catch by Sahil prevented him from getting a TFC for his 0-24 off two overs including a huge six. Overall, a good performance by Brentham winning by 16 runs.
