Colts Reports 2009

This season did not see any of our teams challenge for league or cup honours but it did see a large number of boys making considerable progress. We attempted to address the small number of U10 and U11 players by holding an open evening prior to the start of the season. This was reasonably successful in attracting very young boys but did little to make a difference to the size of the squads for the younger teams.
Again it was good to see the number of boys going on to play regular adult cricket for the lower elevens and it was also pleasing to note how several colts made it into the top two senior elevens on a regular basis.
The colts festival was blessed with some good weather and a very good turnout of colts and adult captains and supporters. Thanks to Imran Raza for organizing a barbeque to round off the day. This day really gets the club together.
Colts week was restricted to games for the U13 and U15 who played three games each. The U13 were victorious in all three and the 15s won two. The games were 30 over affairs which gave opportunities for boys to play a longer innings and eat some excellent teas. Sadly the Friday in-house day was washed out.
Thanks to all the coaches who turned out on a regular basis both to coach and to run matches. We were very fortunate that our overseas coach Jayesh Kansara was both reliable and inspirational. He was a great source of knowledge and was largely responsible for the progress made by many of the boys. We hope that he will return this year.
Thanks again behind the scenes to Richard Hooke for collating the results and to Ken Drane for sorting out registrations and fixtures amongst many other things.

UNDER 13 REPORT
The season started off with a cliff hanger finish against Old Actonians in the opening round of the Cup. Brentham snatched victory with the last batsman grabbing the required 2 runs off the last ball of the match. Stefan Walecki led the way with the batting but was forced to retire on 30. League games against Ealing A & B then followed but our batting was not up to the task and we lost heavily on both occasions. There was, however, an outstanding bowling performance from Will Paul who took 6-14 against Ealing B. Will was presented with the match ball by the Ealing team management before the start of the next match with Ealing.
The next match was against Shepherds Bush in the Cup and Brentham ran out easy winners by 7 wickets, Aram Galichian (30*) led the way. The team then recorded their first league win against Wembley with Jack Solomon taking 3 wickets. Of the Cup Final against Ealing the least said the better. Heavy defeats against Perivale and Ealing A in the league then followed before a narrow victory was recorded against Ealing B. Exceptional bowling from Sam Lewis (3-8) and Aram Galichian (6-5) secured the points. Our final match saw a heavy loss to Wembley but Stefan Walecki returned figures of 4-36 with his ever improving leg spin bowling.
Player of the Year: Stefan Walecki

UNDER 15 REPORT
The side was in a very strong group with both Ealing and Wembley possessing several county players and the league therefore being between those two. We did, however, produce some good performances and we had a good sized squad to pick from.
We beat South Hampstead early on with a good all-round performance with both bat and ball as well as taking some good catches. Matt Newton (30) and Joe Brandreth (20) were not out at the end and Faisal Ahmed batted well before succumbing to cramp!  Joe and Tom Berry took three wickets a piece. The return was rained off. Ealing A and Wembley were far too strong but Joe (30 & 56) and Faisal (65 not out) performed well with the bat. Chris Hitchcock bowled well against Wembley away with the return washed out.
We won one and lost one against Ealing B and both were really good matches played in a great spirit. In the first which we lost we batted well with Sachin Puri (40) and Joe (25 no) but were terrible in the field, dropping catches and generally not supporting the bowlers. In the return we were in trouble chasing down 120 until Joe (45no) and Faisal (35no) saw us home in the last over after being in deep trouble.
Our cup run ended at home to Wembley although on this occasion it was the bowling and fielding which made up for some poor batting and gave a start-studded Wembley a bit of a fright.
Player of the Year: Joe Brandreth

UNDER 17 REPORT
Although there were exams going on all summer it seemed the U17 team proved to be a reliable and easy to manage group. Although being battered by Ealing first up (the least said the better), we were more than a match for most teams. Notable victories included Old As in the pouring rain(credit to them for staying out there), Acton (twice), Chiswick & Latymer, South Hampstead and Perivale.
Good individual performances came from; Luke Felix who took loads of wickets and who three times got a wicket with the first ball of his spell;  Adam Haras-Gummer, Jamie Mansi and Joe Brandreth who bowled well throughout; and Finn Grist, Tom Brandreth, Sam Cato, Ravi Patel and James Hitchcock who all got runs at important times.
To those who will no longer be colts next year we wish them continued success in the senior teams. Many of the names mentioned above have played together since the Gubby Allen days. Great scoring by Keith Brett(thanks).
Player of the year: Tom Brandreth
