Bessborough vs Brentham 1st XI

Brentham: 216-10, 44.1 overs

Bessborough: 116-10, 34.5 overs

he Brentham lads entered Bessborough cricket ground for a feisty encounter. Matt Lowen won the toss and elected to bat. In the absence of regular captain and opener Tom, Ashwin and James opened the innings. James started very confidently and started to dominate their fast bowling attack, Ashwin started slowly but played some very good shots and they put an 80 run partnership on the board. Unluckily James got out for a very good 35 and then Sam walked in and started his innings steadily but soon he was out, caught behind.

Then Mr Dependable of Brentham walked in, Luke Budden, who is in serious form. He started his innings with a stylish boundary and decided to bully their bowlers with no mercy. Meanwhile, Ashwin played an irresponsible shot and got out on 40 when he should have gone on to make 50, I hope he will learn his lesson this time and will act as a senior player next time.

The pitch was two paced and was not easy to bat on, but the experienced Luke decided to take responsibility and guided the innings to the 190 mark before trying to hit their off spinner onto the sightscreen, he missed the ball and was clean bowled. The rest of the batsman got in and then got out and we were all out on 216.

At the start of the second innings, Matt Lowen gave a motivational speech and opened the bowling. He started with very good line, length and started to swing the ball both ways - I assume he was inspired by the England bowlers. He bowled at the stumps resulting in two bowleds and two LBWs, while a catch at point completed his 5-fer.

At the other end Yogi had watched a lot of IPL videos on how to bowl the perfect slower ball, he started with some banana in swing and made the bastmans' life difficult. He bowled superbly with his new slow-ball and took 2 wickets at the top of the innings, he was unlucky not to finish with 5-fer. Bessborough were helpless to deal with the superior attack of Brentham, Matt brought Mehul and Jaisreet on to wrap up the innings and they did so with style.

We won by 100 runs and it was a great effort from the lads.

Great win with a great team.
