Ivor Chaplin just keeps scoring

Ivor Chaplin the scorer for Brentham Cricket Club has set record after record, not only in the number of games that he has scored at but also CONSECUTIVELY. He has not missed one game in all that time.

He joined the Club in 1964 and for the next three years scored for the 2nd XI. He was promoted to the 1st XI in 1967 and has thus been ever-present for 50 years.

In 2014 he completed 700 consecutive League matches (all the League matches that had been played up to that date) at which point the Score Box was named after him and marked with a suitable plaque.

Michael Brearley compared this feat with the leading wicket takers in International Cricket when he pointed out the Warne had amassed just over 700 wickets but pointed out that the ultimate target had to be that achieved by Muralitheran of 807. On 20th May this year Ivor had taken his tally to 750 and 807 is in sight.

An even more remarkable feat occurred on 15th July 2017 when Ivor recorded his 2,000th consecutive match for the Club. This is an unbelievable achievement and is unlikely ever to be equalled. The Cricket Club has already recognised his unparalleled service to the Club by appointing him as a Life Vice President.

Ivor's astonishing achievement over the years has been recognised by one award after another. He has been appointed an Honorary Vice President of both Middlesex County Cricket League and Brentham Club. In 2014 he was presented as a Lifetime Achiever with The Middlesex Outstanding Service Cricket Award as well as that for UK Outstanding Sports Official. He has been nominated in 2005 and 2014 for a cricketing OSCA, presented at Lord’s, and was runner up on the latter occasion. Perhaps the most prized opportunity was being invited to score at Lord’s for a MCC v CCC match in 2015 to add to his appearance at Lord’s with Brentham in 1972.

Brentham CC have marked his latest achievement by presenting him with a trophy recording this unique landmark.
