Memories 10 - Brentham v Hounslow
1st August 1964
David Bloomfield won the toss and decided to bat. Macadam bowled his first 6 overs without conceding a run and, when Chauffourier took the first wicket in his 6th over, we had reached 13 for the loss of Horace Brearley. Joe Misso batted for 53 minutes for 4 runs. Paul Hooper and Jim Askey made progress but we were still only 47 for 4 wickets when Roy James joined Askey. They took the score on to 101 before Askey was bowled by Ernie Young. A partnership with Brian Waters ensued and brought up 130 but it was proving to be a difficult day. The declaration came at 144 for 7, with James undefeated on 44.
When Hounslow batted the game took a dramatic turn. Brian Mead and Brian Reid outdid the opening spell by Hounslow. In the first 12 overs they remarkably only gave away 10 runs and at the same time took 4 wickets. Chauffourier and Syrett then provided some stability and batted for an hour before their dismissal whilst adding 50 runs. Wickets fell then at regular intervals but Brentham could not finish it off. Hounslow forced the draw having reached 97 for 9. Brian Reid had bowled 24 overs and taken 4 for 41 whilst Brian Mead had taken 4 for 18 from 13 overs. Brentham had faced 49 overs whilst Hounslow received 48.
