Majed Ali, a legend of Brentham and the Middlesex County Cricket League, joined the exclusive club of men to have scored 6000 MCCL 1st XI league runs this weekend.

In the process, he also moved into the top 10 run scorers in the history of the league, dating back to its formation in 1972.

Heading into our Week One game at London Tigers, Maj needed 11 runs to pass his latest milestone. And he did that with a four off the final ball of the fifth over of the innings. 12 balls earlier a two had taken him to 5994 league runs, above Enfield's Neil Tilley and into the top 10 all-time.

Ending on 34, Maj now sits on 6023 league runs from 307 matches, itself the joint fourth-most matches played in the history of the league.

Maj made his Brentham debut in 2001 and scored 3012 runs for the club before moving to Finchley in 2010. The 2007 season, his best, saw Maj plunder 592 runs, the fourth most in the league, only 12 fewer than future England international Dawid Malad.

Maj's decade in North London brought a further 2493 league runs before a return to Brentham in 2023.

In total, Maj has now scored 3530 league runs for the club, only behind Luke Budden and Daniel Rodgers on our all-time MCCL list. His highest score is 98* against Southgate in August 2008.
