After rain washed out the entirety of the week 5 slate, Brentham roared back with four wins from four to begin the middle block of time games in the Middlesex County Cricket League.
Tomek Tsang’s 1s put on a show for Vice-President’s day to beat Winchmore Hill by 105 runs at Meadvale Road.
Brentham’s imposing total of 249-7 off 53 overs was built on plenty of contributions right down the order. Saad Rehman (51), Lasan De Silva (31) and Louie Millman (49) set the foundation, allowing Pruthvi Kand (58), George Allen (21) and Tomek Tsang (27) to press the accelerator late on.
Nadith Samarappulige (1-34) and George Allen (1-10) made early inroads, including removing the dangerous Jim Gatting, before the left-arm spin twins of Kieran Bradley and Pruthvi Kand went to work.
Kieran ended with 6-35 while Pruthvi took 2-39 as the away side were bowled out for 144 inside 35 overs for a 12-point win.
Second in the table, the 1s head to second-from-bottom Kenton this weekend.
Atif Shah’s 2s also got the better of Winchmore Hill in a thriller at the Paulin Ground.
Batting first, the 2s looked in all sorts of trouble at 52-5. However, Dhiraj Khullar (111) and 14-year-old Dhruvin Patel (65) combined for a sensational 160-run sixth-wicket partnership to completely change the balance of the game.
Hamza Khan was then unleased for a 29-ball 47, vaulting the Trees up to 273-8 off 49 overs.
Despite losing two early wickets, the hosts never let the rate get away from them and looked well poised at 95-2. Captain Atif Shah (2-63) made a double breakthrough in his first over but still Hill pushed on for the win.
At 190-5 and 220-7, Hill still felt they had a chance. However, the spin of Soham Labade (5-52) eventually proved too much – he took the final five wickets to seal a 37-run victory.
The 12 points sent Brentham up to sixth ahead of the visit of league leaders Barnes to W5 this weekend.
James Hitchcock’s 3s continue to lead the way in Division One as they stormed to a fifth win in six to start the campaign.
Travelling to Brondesbury, who started the day in second, the Trees were in ruthless mood. Will Pye (4-21) did the early damage to reduce the hosts to 15-3. After a patient 76-run 4th wicket stand, Pratyesh Desai (5-29) brought on a remarkable collapse of 7-25 to end the innings on 116.
Brentham were composed in the chase, led by James Dunn (59) and Vijay Pamu (35*), easing to an eight-wicket win in 24 overs.
13 points clear of third, bottom-of-the-table Hampstead make the trip to William Perkin this weekend.
The perfect Saturday was completed with a remarkable one-wicket victory for Krushna Kerai’s 4s.
Deshraj Verma was the star of the show. First he took 5-73, ably supported by Kashif Riaz’s 3-34, to bowl Old Merchant Taylors out for 178.
He then top scored with 41 as the Trees scrambled over the line from 106-8. Sharing partnerships of 40 with Krushna Kerai (16) for the 9th wicket, and an unbroken 33 with Richard Taper (12) for the 10th wicket, it was a remarkable effort to secure the 10 points.
Second, with 43 points from six matches, the 4s make the trip to East Molesey to play second-from-bottom Indian Gymkhana on Saturday.
