Six-a-side Success for Pakistan VI

A staple of the summer calendar, our annual Club Six-a-Side didn't disappoint with the Pakistan VI overcoming Prav's Superstars in a tense final on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday.

Set 56 to win from their 25 balls, the Pakistan VI, made up of Mohsin Hassan, Atif Shah, Ayaz Khan, Saad Rehman, Ahmed Shahid, and skipper Badar Nadeem (left to right above), went into the final over still needing 12 to win. However, the first two balls disappeared over the rope off Rehman's bat as the Pakistan VI won, in the end, with a comfortable three balls to spare.

It was a fitting end to a fine day on and off the pitch which saw more than £600 raised for the club from the cricket, BBQ, and Bouncy Castles.

The day started with a bang as Tomek Tsang dispatched Ciaran Brett's final three balls for a four and two sixes to snatch an improbable victory for the Old Priorians against the Ginger VI, having gone into the final over needing 19 to win.

The hotly-anticipated clash between the Pakistan VI and the Bharat Army went the way of the eventual winners as they progressed through the group stages unbeaten.

The Group Stage positions changed right up to the final ball with three teams, Ginger VI, the Bunker VI, and Semi-Pros, ending level on points and sixes hit. It was eventually decided on runs scored which saw the Ginger VI (who just happened to have been scoring!!) advance to face Pakistan with the Old Priorians taking on Prav's Superstars.

Both Semi-Finals were one-sided affairs with Prav's Superstars and the Pakistan VI posting first-innings totals that were out of reach in reply. At the half-way stage it looked like the final would follow a similar story but, on a day where chasing had proved difficult, the Pakistan VI bucked the trend to take the trophy.

Many thanks must go to Vishal Patel for organising the bouncy castles and PD for his work setting up the day and, most importantly, keeping everyone fed from the BBQ!
